“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is the second reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise and the sixteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. Directed by John Watts and writing credits by Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers. Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/The Vulture, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as Michelle, Bokeem Woodbine as Herman Schultz/The Shocker, and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
After Spider-Man’s brief appearance in “Captain America: Civil War,” it’ll be interesting to see how this film does at the box office. Recasting the title character was a great idea (even though I thought Andrew Garfield did a great job with the “Amazing Spider-Man” films), it’s appropriate that a younger actor was cast so there can be more films in the long run.
It’s also nice to see another villain(s) that hasn’t been seen on the big screen yet. First, The Shocker. He may not have a major role in this film, but he’s been one of Spider-Man’s foes since 1967. The main villain, The Vulture, made his first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #2 back in 1963, so he was due to make an appearance on the big screen. Bottom line is…please, no more Green Goblins anytime soon! I think we’ve seen enough of him (for now), and there are so many other foes of Spider-Man that haven’t been seen yet that would transfer nicely on the big screen.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” opens on July 7, 2017 nationwide, and until then, we’ll see how the collaboration between Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Sony Pictures fares at the box office. Hopefully, Spider-Man will have a nice “homecoming,” by having a decent film. Below is the teaser trailer for tomorrow’s big unveiling of the second trailer…which I will post and update tomorrow evening, keep your eyes peeled for it!
